Dance is a very dynamic part of Australian performing arts culture. It can provide a rich performance experience, merging the imagination and skill of choreographers, dancers, designers, composers and musicians.

Classical and contemporary dance performances are enjoyed across Australia. An array of independent, company and project dance initiatives can:
... give audiences anything from unadorned movement process to high-end technology and real-time linkups across the globe, from glossy, fluid dance to hip hop, from fusions of Aboriginal and new forms to dance on film.
Baxter, V and Gallasch, K, In repertoire: A guide to Australian contemporary dance, Australia Council, p 31
Major arts festivals provide the chance for international and Australian dance companies to entertain, challenge and delight new audiences. In turn, Australian dance ventures such as Chunky Move, Buzz Dance Theatre and Australian Dance Theatre are bringing their work to the world through international tours.
A brief history of dance in Australia
Australian dance draws on many influences including the traditions and history of dance as an art form, as well as the different cultures and trends in society.
A strong Indigenous tradition
Dance is an important part of Indigenous Australians' cultural traditions. It is reflected and reinterpreted in the work and creativity of various Aboriginal and Islander dance companies which formed from the early 1960s onward.
Dance is increasing the prominence of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as it is transferred from communities to public theatres and transformed from ceremony to spectacle.
European influences
Different forms of dance came to Australia with the first European settlers. Dancers visited colonial Australia from other countries, and danced as part of pantomime, opera and other theatre performances.

Ballet and other forms of theatre became very popular during the Australian gold rushes. The appeal of Romantic Ballet in particular brought many European and American dancers to perform in Australia.
Russian ballet was also very influential. Anna Pavlova's Australian tours in 1926 and 1929, and tours by the Ballet Russes in the 1930s attracted a lot of interest and stimulated the development of Australia's own ballet culture.
Developing Australian dance
A number of professional Australian ballet companies were founded during the 1940s and 1950s. These included the Kirsova Ballet, The Borovansky Ballet, Laurel Martyn's Ballet Guild, The West Australian Ballet and the short-lived Australian Theatre Ballet.
The Australian Ballet School was established in 1964 and a range of contemporary dance companies flourished over the next three decades, including Expressions, Bangarra Dance Theatre and The Aboriginal Islander Dance Theatre

Anurag Basu's Barfi! is a well-crafted script with an intriguing back-and-forth narrative but it all goes south towards the end, writes Raja Sen
Romance is never easy. Neither is bringing it to the big screen, though Anurag Basu -- a filmmaker inherently gifted when it comes to visual imagery and metaphor -- is a fine man for the job.
He can roll up his sleeves and whip out one peachy moment after another, keeping things wonderfully endearing while poking the audience ever so forcefully in the gut with a monkey-wrench.
He is then to be commended for his latest, Barfi!, a film that admirably refuses to yank the sympathy cord. Instead, it creates genuine characters and a truly charming relationship before, alas, one of his lead characters chooses not to follow the director's example and instead mistakes sympathy for love, making for a lesser film than it deserved to be.
Barfi! might have started off a certain way, but pulls up well short and -- as we were told before the beginning of (500) Days Of Summer -- "this is not a love story."
A well-crafted script with an intriguing back-and-forth narrative -- set in the present day, 1978 and 1972 -- Barfi! intrigues, right to the point somewhere down the middle, when it becomes more than apparent exactly what the film's story is, after which all goes south. The film's naïveté starts to wear thin, previously cast spells now appearing repetitive as the movie tragically falls into the very traps of mawkishness and manipulation it avoids so, so adroitly through the start.
Basu has always been a very solid storyteller, but here the germ of the story -- the very chunk of plot the film is woven around -- is what lets him down, proving to be predictable and ineffective, paling in comparison to the dreamy dalliance he forges so smoothly early on.
And yet so impressive and earnest are most parts of Barfi! that one is inclined even to forgive its flawed centre; we want badly to overlook the film's peach-seed heart, and concentrate on the rest of its juicy joys. And these it provides in abundance.
Named after the once-ubiquitous old-timey Murphy Radio sets, the deaf-mute Murphy is born in Darjeeling to a chauffeur and his wife who dies moments after childbirth. An exceedingly sprightly fellow -- the sort who would constantly whistle if only he could hear himself do so -- the film's leading man has much silent-movie charisma as he, goofily and gorgeously, wins over everyone from townspeople to audience members. He introduces himself with an eventually shrill but sweet "brrpheee" sound, and thus the world calls him Barfi. And one fine, bracing afternoon, this Barfi falls quite madly in love, hook, line and sinker.
The object of his affections is a young Bengali girl new to Darjeeling, and from what we see and the loving way Basu and his superbly fluid cinematographer Ravi Varman capture their actress, we can't blame the boy an ounce. Shruti Ghosh -- a striking girl with disarming, Bambi-sized eyes -- is soon grateful for Barfi's magic touch, and the chord the two strike, as they share bicycle seats and horse-saddles, is one of rare tenderness. Yet all is never as idyllic, and there is much concern, involving engagement rings to the kidnapping of an autistic young woman called Jhilmil (which is that central plot, fashioned purely out of hokum.) And things change gears faster than Barfi or those of us rooting for him would like.
And Barfi's as irresistible as they come. Played by Ranbir Kapoor [ Images ] with that marvellous abandon which is increasingly marking him out to be a truly special leading man -- his shoulders well outgrowing those of (all) his A-list peers and rubbing now alongside actual acting heavyweights -- his Barfi is a treat, a bushy-tailed hero with a highly infectious spring in his step. There is a natural grace to his klutziness, and he does very strongly indeed with this Chaplin-tribute role, bestowing his character with heart every step of the way. To paraphrase the radio hoarding seen in nostalgia-tinted Darjeeling, Kapoor's Barfi "sets the standard."
It is a bravura performance, highlighted by a particularly vulnerable outburst where Barfi momentarily drops the smile and would really, really like to yell.
Ileana D'Cruz, as the pretty Ghoshling narrating the film, does brilliantly. Her character is a trickily nuanced one, simple yet committed, indecisive yet brave, and the most real of the bunch, and she makes it work, using the silences expressively, heartbreakingly well, and really making her romance with Kapoor magical. A scene where the two kiss, as wordless as the rest of the film, is a moment of absolute perfection.
Rupa Ganguly does well as Shruti's mother -- even though I personally suspect her one dramatic line is a convenient fib --and Saurabh Shukla is great as a heavy, harrowed cop.
As Jhilmil, Priyanka Chopra god bless her soul, does indeed try valiantly to play autistic, but -- trapped not just by the film's most flawed character and plotline -- makes that cardinal mistake expressed so unforgettably in Tropic Thunder: she goes full retard. She's not bad, even very effective in a couple of scenes, but her character belongs to a different film. (Ideally a shorter one, because it does drag this one down.)
Barfi, Shruti, Jhilmil The warmth doesn't stop there. A police station is called Sleep, a shelter is called Smile. And as we see a fugitive hero hijack a crucial ride almost as an afterthought, it's hard not to get swayed.
Two of my favourite moments in Barfi! involve deft cinematic sleight of hand: we see a hand painting a canvas, and, as the camera pulls out, realise its not the one we assume; much later, another hand tugs on a shirt, and here too we are fooled by it belonging to another. The misdirection is skilful and pleasing, but I do wish the beautifully beguiling beginning hadn't turned out to be an example of the same.

Ranbir's Barfi! a winner at the box office
deaf-mute boy named Barfi gets the prettiest girl in town to kiss him. But their sweetly awkward love affair comes undone, after which Barfi embarks on an adventure with an autistic girl. Somehow these two, on their own, manage to survive the city of Kolkata - Barfi gets a job and even a ramshackle house with a spectacular view of Howrah Bridge. To point out that this is unlikely seems churlish. Because Barfi is designed to be a bittersweet, tender fable.
This is a film made with love, bolstered by wonderfully etched vignettes, Ranbir Kapoor's stupendous performance and a gorgeous soundtrack by Pritam. And yet, for me, Barfi was a singularly frustrating experience there was so much to like, but the film never became more than the sum of its parts. The best thing about Barfi! is the character of Barfi, played by Ranbir Kapoor. This is a man with no money and no voice, who lives by his quick wits. He is always one step ahead of the local cop, whose entire career seems to consist of chasing Barfi. But Barfi won't be trapped, either by his disabilities or his circumstances. He ingeniously finds ways to surmount everything. Ranbir, channeling Charlie Chaplin and Roberto Benigni, breathes life into Barfi. He is nimble and fearlessly expressive. His eyes convey his joys and hurt. Apart from Manoj Bajpayee and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the Gangs of Wasseypur saga, I can't think of a better leading-man performance in Hindi cinema this year. Barfi's two loves Shruti, played by Ileana D'Cruz, and Jhilmil, played by Priyanka Chopra provide strong support. Ileana has a quiet grace about her, but the surprise is Priyanka. I don't know enough about autism to say that her performance is authentic to the condition, but she doesn't come off as plastic. She abandons the props of glamour and costumes and puts in a sincere effort to make you forget that you're watching Priyanka Chopra. These compelling characters, however, are flattened by a confusing plot that moves between three timelines and eventually trips on itself. As long as Basu stays with the love track, the film moves, but then we are sidetracked by suspense, which isn't all that suspenseful because you can predict exactly who did what. The narrative veers between pure treatment - little moments strung together and overwrought plotting that twists back and forth. Parts of the film are indulgent, and it could have done with less of the Hallmark card-style homilies - lines such as 'Life mein sabse bada risk hota hai koi risk na lena'.

John Cena of the WWE, is an incredibly well built wrestler. At 6'1" tall and 245lbs, Cena has some giant arms. The Champ was a competitive bodybuilder in his late teens before joining the wrestling circuit. Obviously his hard work and dedication in the gym has paid off handsomely.
Surprisingly, in this early teens, Cena only weighed 120lbs. He started a weight training workout routine at this early age because other kids picked on him. From age 15 to age 16 he went from 155lbs to 215lbs and graduated high school at 235-250lbs.
John Cena's workout routine focuses on strength and performance. His lifts are designed to increase core strength, speed, and agility.
WWE wrestler John Cena is known for his incredible stature, after all, he's been working out since he was 18. After competing in some bodybuilding shows in his late teens and early twenties Cena set his sights on Wrestling. Now at 32 years old John Cena certainly knows his body and currently standing at 6ft 1" and 240 pounds is certainly in the shape of his life. But how does he do it? Here's a glimpse into Cena's arm routine.
1. SEATED ONE-ARM DUMBBELL OVERHEAD EXTENSION
Cena sits on a bench with a dumbbell raised behind his head, so that his upper arm is vertical and his elbow is extended. To begin the movement, he lowers the dumbbell as far as he comfortably can behind his head, which usually results in the weight touching his upper back lightly in the bottom most position. He pauses for a second in "the hole," feeling an intense stretch along the entire length of his triceps, before raising the weight back to the starting position, making sure to keep the upper half (i.e. the biceps and triceps) of his working arm stationary. However many reps he completes, he matches that with the other arm to prevent the creation of a strength imbalance or exacerbating any existing imbalance.
2. CLOSE-GRIP CHIN
Cena hangs from a bar overhead using a narrow, underhand grip. Pulling, rather than jerking, he lifts his body till his chin approaches the bar. Lowering himself slowly, he returns to the starting position and repeats. (If you have trouble lifting your bodyweight for the number of reps listed, Cena recommends using an assisted version such as the Gravitron machine.)
3. PREACHER-BENCH EZ-BAR CURL
Cena positions the seat pad so that when he sits down his elbows rest nearer to the bottom than the top of the vertical side of the arm pad. He holds a weighted bar with a shoulder-width grip and bends his elbows slightly before the rep even begins. He flexes his elbows in earnest to begin curling the weight at a moderate pace, under control. He stops once the bar nears his chin, squeezes his biceps hard for a one-count, then slowly lowers the bar back down, rather than simply letting it drop.
4.PARALLEL-BAR DIP
After selecting parallel dip bars that are slightly wider than shoulder-width apart, Cena lifts himself using a neutral grip (palms facing his body) until his arms are fully extended and his torso is nearly upright. (The closer your arms are to the sides of your body, the greater the triceps stimulation.) In this starting position, his knees are bent 90 degrees and his ankles are crossed. Without letting his elbows flare out and keeping his torso as vertical as possible, Cena bends his elbows to lower his body as far as he comfortably can in a controlled descent, at which point he feels a stretch in his shoulder joints. He straightens his elbows to lift his body back up, pushing until his arms are fully extended.
If you're a beginner and find the dip exercise too difficult, try going through a shorter range of motion and then gradually increasing the depth. Also useful are machines that allow you to do the exercise with less than bodyweight.
5. STANDING ALTERNATE DUMBBELL CURL
Holding a pair of dumbbells at arms' length so that his palms face each other, Cena stands with his feet approximately shoulder-width apart, knees slightly bent, torso erect, low back slightly arched and abs tight. He begins curling one dumbbell toward his shoulder, turning his wrist as he goes so that by the time the dumbbell approaches his shoulder, his palm is facing up. At full contraction, he squeezes his biceps hard and then lowers the weight back down to his side. He repeats using the other arm, continuing in alternating fashion until he completes his reps.

Many people know John Cena as one of WWE’s most prominent wrestlers. But the reality is that John Cena is also known as a beautiful specimen of what body building can do. John Cena has been fully involved in the body building industry for many years, and he has come to be known as one of the premier body builders of modern times.
Not only has John Cena found worldwide fame as a professional wrestler, he has also found amazing respect in the body building world as a great example of what effective body building can do. He is constantly featured at the Arnold Expo and many people want to emulate his body as well as his workout regimen.
Most people get into body building to sculpt a beautiful body. John Cena is no different. He wanted a great body, but he also wanted to be super strong. When Vince McMahon approached him about joining the WWE, the temptation was just too much to resist. But, really, when you think about it, it’s a natural transition.
Professional wrestlers all have amazing bodies. Their muscles are tight and toned just like professional body builders. They just use their muscle mass for different entertainment purposes. That doesn’t make John Cena any different than Arnold Schwarzeneggar. Cena just chose to use his physique in a different way.
One of the best parts of John Cena’s body building career is that he pursued the sport as a profession. He graduated from Springfield College with a degree in exercise physiology. When he couldn’t find work in his chosen field, he opted to go with professional wrestling in his career path. And nothing could have proved to be a better choice than that for him!
What does John Cena say about body building? The answer is that he advocates pretty much what the other expert say: Choose a program that fits your lifestyle and your goals; never give up on your aspirations; work like you’ve never worked before and always remember why you are doing what you are doing; and make sure that you work all your muscle groups equally.
John Cena has made an amazing career out of his body building prowess. He is truly a beautiful specimen and a great model for what the human body can do. When you want to build your body, you could take a few hints from John Cena on how to build a great body with amazing strength.

The following night, the two men agreed to fight one another the following year at WrestleMania XXVIII. Randy made his wrestling debut in 2000 at the Mid-Missouri Wrestling Association-Southern Illinois Conference Wrestling (MMWA-SICW) in St. Louis, Missouri before being signed signed to a developmental contract with WWE sending him to Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW).
In April of 2002, he made his official WWE television debut taking on Hardcore Holly in a match on Smackdown. Later that year he was moved to Raw brand but within a few weeks he was sidelined with a shoulder injury. He continued making regular appearances on WWE television, going as far as attacking targeted Superstars with his crutches and giving fans constant updates on his medical progress — whether they wanted them or not with his infamous “RNN News” bulletins. Returning to active competition in May 2003, Orton was instantly recruited by Triple H to join with the legendary “Nature Boy” Ric Flair, and the Animal Batista as part of Evolution. Orton captured his first major championship on Dec. 14, 2003, defeating Rob Van Dam for the Intercontinental Championship at Armageddon. He held on to the championship for an impressive seven months.Priding himself as “The Legend Killer,’’ Orton has finished off the likes of Hall of Famer Sgt. Slaughter, Jake “the Snake” Roberts and hardcore legend Mick Foley. Orton also displays no fear and no respect when confronting legends such as Harley Race, asserting his claim as the true legend of sports-entertainment.
In August of 2004, Randy defeated World Heavyweight Champion Chris Benoit at SummerSlam to become the youngest person ever to hold a title in WWE history at the age of 24. The very next night, Triple H arranged a vicious beating for his former stablemate and banished him from Evolution. Independence, however, only made Orton stronger and bolder. When Triple H threatened Orton and demanded that he “hand over” the World Heavyweight Championship, Orton just spit in his face. He then went on to “kill” one of the greatest legends of them all: 16-time world champion (and his former mentor) Ric Flair in a fan-selected Steel Cage Match later that year at Taboo Tuesday. The next year, Randy did something not many superstars dare to, challenge the legendary Undertaker at WrestleMania. Orton gave it everything he had, including some help from his father, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Deadman from going 13-0 at the biggest event of the year.He was put on the shelf with a shoulder injury suffered during his WrestleMania match and wasn’t seen again until he was drafted to SmackDown in the 2005 Draft Lottery, where he continued what would be a 9-month feud with the Undertaker.
In the following years, Randy took on the likes of Rey Mysterio, formed the infamous RatedRKO with Edge to taken Triple H & Shawn Michaels in the reformed team of DX and defeated Jeff Hardy to retain his WWE Title. However, in a title match with Triple H at One Night Stand he broke his collarbone and was sidelined once again. To make matters worse, just before he was set to return from his injury, Randy was in a minor motorcycle accident which kept him out for just a bit longer. He made an unexpected return to Raw at the beginning of September ’08, criticizing all of the champions on the brand. Tag team champions at the time, Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase took exception to this and tried to gain his respect.Unsuccessful until the pay-per-view event Unforgiven, the three of them, alongside new recruit Manu, assaulted World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk, costing him his title. Shortly after his official return to the ring in November, losing to CM Punk (after a disqualification) Randy formed a stable known as Legacy. They dominated the RAW brand throughout 2009 and part of 2010 before imploding in what would turn into a triple threat match between Cody Rhodes, Ted DiBiase & Randy at WrestleMania 26, with Randy turning up victorious. The rest of 2010 saw feuds with the likes of Sheamus, Wade Barrett & The Miz along with both title wins & losses. Culminating in a feud with CM Punk late in the year and going on to defeat Punk at WrestleMania 27.
In April of 2011, after nearly 5 years Randy was drafted to the Smackdown brand. So what else is in store for the 8 time world champion & 3rd generation superstar? Only time will tell.
In WWE, Cena has won 19 championships in total, including 12 world titles (having won the WWE Championship a record 10 times[9] and the World Heavyweight Championship twice). In addition, Cena has also won the WWE United States Championship three times and is a four-time Tag Team Champion, having held the World Tag Team Championship twice (once each with Shawn Michaels and Batista)and the WWE Tag Team Championship twice (once each with David Otunga and The Miz). Cena also won the 2008 Royal Rumble match, the 2012 Money in the Bank contract for the WWE Title, and is a two-time Superstar of the Year Slammy Award winner (2009 and 2010).He is the longest-reigning WWE Champion of the 2000s, having held the title for 380 days from 2006-2007, and also has the fourth highest number of combined days as WWE Champion behind Bob Backlund, Hulk Hogan and Bruno Sammartino. Cena is the only man to fail to capture a world title upon cashing in a Money in the Bank contract.
WWE RAW 9/3/2012 John Cena vs Alberto Del Rio - CM Punk and Paul Heyman Destroys Cena
Cena started his professional wrestling career in 2000, wrestling for Ultimate Pro Wrestling, where he held the UPW Heavyweight Championship. In 2001, Cena signed a contract with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) and was sent to Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) where he held the OVW Heavyweight Championship and the OVW Southern Tag Team Championship (with Rico Constantino).
